Accounting Research Camp on Transparency In Corporations and markets 2024 (ARCTIC)

The first Accounting Research Camp on Transparency In Corporations and markets (ARCTIC) was a great success. The workshop took place from March 14th to March 17th 2024 in Fügenberg, Austria. In this new workshop format, organized by Christian Hofmann, Nina Schwaiger (both LMU Munich), Urska Kosi and Jens Müller (both Uni Paderborn), PhD students had the opportunity to present and discuss their early stage research while also bonding with fellow PhD students in the TRR 266. Furthermore, Thorsten Sellhorn (LMU Munich) and Caren Sureth-Sloane (University Paderborn participated in the discussions as guest faculty members.

The workshop aims at more closely connecting analytical and empirical research in financial accounting, managerial accounting, and tax research. On top, it’s a great opportunity for PhD students from different TRR 266 projects and universities to get to know each other. The social activities that frame the presentations gave everyone time to interact and bond. Having strong connections within the TRR 266 strengthens the exchange within the projects, helps improve everyone’s research and aligns the overall research goals of the TRR 266.

To acknowledge outstanding academic performance among presenters, discussants and audience the following awards were distributed:

  • Best presenter award: Jonas Materna (HU Berlin)
  • Best discussant awards: Lisa Lüttke (HU Berlin) and Yuri Piper (Uni Paderborn)
  • Most active participant award: Yasmin Hoffmann (Uni Mannheim)

“The link between analytical and empirical research is a vital part of research and a central goal of the TRR 266. ARCTIC aims to raise this awareness among PhD students and at the same time allows them to directly interact with each other. I am very content how successfully the combination of social activities and presenting worked to achieve that goal”, ARCTIC-organizer Urska Kosi explains.

ARCTIC 2024 was the first in a series of research camps. ARCTIC 2025 is planned to take place in March next year. More on that is soon to come.
